Tuna Salad Sandwich

Main Ingredients

  • 1 can (5 oz) tuna, drained (you can use either water-packed or oil-packed tuna)
  • 2-3 tablespoons mayonnaise (adjust to your preference)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped celery
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion (optional)
  • 1-2 teaspoons lemon juice (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Bread slices (your choice of bread, such as whole wheat, white, or multigrain)
  • Lettuce leaves (optional)
  • Sliced tomatoes (optional)

Directions

  • Prepare the Tuna Salad:

    • In a mixing bowl, flake the drained tuna with a fork.
    • Add mayonnaise, chopped celery, chopped red onion (if using), and lemon juice.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
    • Mix everything together until well combined. Adjust mayo and lemon juice to achieve your desired consistency and flavor.
  • Assemble the Sandwich:

    • Take two slices of bread.
    • If desired, spread a thin layer of additional mayonnaise or mustard on the bread slices for extra flavor.
    • Place a lettuce leaf on one slice of bread (this helps prevent the bread from getting soggy from the tuna salad).
    • Spoon the prepared tuna salad onto the lettuce leaf.
    • Optionally, add sliced tomatoes on top of the tuna salad.
    • Top with the second slice of bread.
  • Serve:

    • Cut the sandwich in half diagonally or vertically.
    • Serve immediately, or wrap it in parchment paper or plastic wrap to pack for lunch.
