Fruit Raita

Main Ingredients

  • Yogurt: 1 cup (plain yogurt, preferably full-fat for creaminess)
  • Fruits: Choose fruits that are ripe, sweet, and complement each other. Common choices include:
    • 1/2 cup diced mangoes
    • 1/2 cup diced pineapples
    • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds (or other berries like strawberries)
  • Sweetener (optional): 1-2 teaspoons of honey or sugar, adjust to taste
  • Spices:
    • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
    • A pinch of black salt (regular salt can be used if black salt is not available)
  • Garnish:
    • Fresh mint leaves, chopped (optional)

Directions

  1. Prepare the Yogurt:

    • Take the yogurt in a mixing bowl and whisk it until smooth. You can adjust the consistency by adding a little water if you prefer it thinner.
  2. Prepare the Fruits:

    • Wash and prepare the fruits. Peel and dice mangoes and pineapples into small, bite-sized pieces. Deseed the pomegranate if using, or use other berries as desired.
  3. Mixing:

    • Add the diced fruits to the yogurt and gently fold them in until well combined.
  4. Seasoning:

    • Add roasted cumin powder and black salt (adjust to taste). If you prefer a slightly sweeter raita, you can also add honey or sugar at this stage. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  5. Chilling:

    • Cover the bowl and refrigerate the fruit raita for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and to chill thoroughly.
  6. Serve:

    • Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh mint leaves for added freshness.
