Fruit Raita
Main Ingredients
- Yogurt: 1 cup (plain yogurt, preferably full-fat for creaminess)
- Fruits: Choose fruits that are ripe, sweet, and complement each other. Common choices include:
- 1/2 cup diced mangoes
- 1/2 cup diced pineapples
- 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds (or other berries like strawberries)
- Sweetener (optional): 1-2 teaspoons of honey or sugar, adjust to taste
- Spices:
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- A pinch of black salt (regular salt can be used if black salt is not available)
- Garnish:
- Fresh mint leaves, chopped (optional)
Directions
Prepare the Yogurt:
- Take the yogurt in a mixing bowl and whisk it until smooth. You can adjust the consistency by adding a little water if you prefer it thinner.
Prepare the Fruits:
- Wash and prepare the fruits. Peel and dice mangoes and pineapples into small, bite-sized pieces. Deseed the pomegranate if using, or use other berries as desired.
Mixing:
- Add the diced fruits to the yogurt and gently fold them in until well combined.
Seasoning:
- Add roasted cumin powder and black salt (adjust to taste). If you prefer a slightly sweeter raita, you can also add honey or sugar at this stage. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Chilling:
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate the fruit raita for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together and to chill thoroughly.
Serve:
- Before serving, garnish with chopped fresh mint leaves for added freshness.
